Starport takes place in the Trimary System, a totally different universe than the one we inhabit. The Trimary System is composed of three stars and five planets that support human life. Beyond the nebula, as seen from the planet Askelon, are fifteen or twenty other worlds as well, some of them hostile to the Trimary.

A grassroots revolution on the farming planet Agricor threatens the food supply of the entire Trimary System, as well as sixteen worlds beyond the nebula. If the rebels win, literally billions of people could starve.Now working for the Askelon Intelligence Agency, Carlene Vargas is sent to penetrate the revolution in the hope of subverting it. As she feared, Jorge Sorres is funding the rebellion, but things are about to get even worse—the totalitarian planet Eroak, from beyond the nebula, sees the revolution as an opportunity to control the food supply. If they succeed, Eroak will have the entire system by the throat.
The war on Agricor is over and thousands of captive Askeloni, including Carlene Vargas, have been transported to prisons on cold, gloomy Eroak. With the traitor Marco now president of Askelon, the outlook for everyone is dim.
But there is hope—ex-president Enza has wrangled an appointment as ambassador to Eroak and is working to get the prisoners repatriated. Unaware of her efforts, the captive soldiers have hatched their own escape plan. If their breakout succeeds, it just might trigger another war with Eroak.
Ninety light years from home, fifty thousand soldiers of Askelon are prisoners of war on the enemy planet Eroak. Betrayed by their President and abandoned by their government, many have taken matters into their own hands. Fifteen thousand have already escaped captivity, but repatriation will be impossible as long as Eroak is ruled by the dominant class. But they are not alone—rebellious local tribes hate the government and might be willing to help. If they can free the remaining POWs, is it possible they can find their way home to Askelon? To do so, they will have to topple the most oppressive regime in the galaxy…and no one will be coming to help.
